Josh ordered some good organic potting soil and filled a plastic bin.
Add some water, and then work with the soil blocker, which creates twenty compact blocks of soil, each with a perfect indentation to hold a single seed.
Then, he used a seeder (a cool tool designed to help drop just one seed into the soil block...trickier than it sounds.)
And there it is! Pretty amazing that a big plant grows from such a small seed. More planting to come next week. We're keeping these guys in the greenhouse until they get big enough (and it gets warm enough) to plant them in the ground.
You can learn more about the health benefits of Kale here, as well as some healthy ways to prepare it. It's one of the most nutrient rich vegetables, and so it's definitely worth incorporating into your diet. You can even add some to a fruit smoothie - just put it in the blender with the other ingredients. Warning: It can change the smoothie color to more of a brown-ish hue, but you won't be able to taste it. If the color bothers you, put it in a opaque cup. :)
